Nightmare Thief

There’s a ghost sleeping somewhere

Dreaming away my life

While I move along, she rests

Stirring only when I stall

Crawls and sinks into my chest

Shouting, shaking, waking, waking

Cruelly complicates my breathing

Until I remember I have to

I’m not the exception to your exclusion
But you assure me, eyes enlightened,
Swear your steps will follow mine
And I can believe you believe with me you’re different;

I can believe you don’t see your direction
Will rule me out, and leave me spinning

It’s not your fault I fear you;
I just know I’m the only one our meeting threatens

So if you respect me as more than experience,
More than a point between your lines,
You’ll cross your heart
And promise to turn around
